Bowling is Serious Business in One Leland Management Community

… “nose hit”, “powerhouse,” “puddle,” “sixpack” and “tickler.” All these words have something in common. Give up? Well, they’re bowling terms! These terms, and more like them, are very well-known to one of Leland Management’s Ocala Division homeowner associations. The Association of Marion Landing Owners located off State Road 200 in Ocala has their very own bowling center! Besides the customary amenities that Florida’s active adult communities are known for such as shuffleboard, tennis, pickleball, fitness centers, horseshoes, bocce, etc., Marion Landing takes it a step further with its own Bowling Center. There are more and more active adults getting back into bowling than ever before. Bowling allows camaraderie with old friends, meeting new people, bonding with family members, or even teaching a child how to bowl. Marion Landing residents certainly don’t underestimate themselves, or their abilities — they are as young as they feel — especially while bowling at their center.

The Bowling Center at Marion Landing has both sanctioned and non-sanctioned leagues as well as open bowling times for all the homeowners who would like to give it a try and just have fun. Each year the Marion Landing League Bowlers hold a large banquet honoring those top bowlers and teams. Currently, there are four leagues, and each have a Men’s and Women’s Bowler of the Month competition where the monthly winners compete in a “roll-off” for Bowler of the Year. No special fees or charges apply to the Bowling Center. The maintenance of the Center is included in all homeowners’ regular monthly association assessments. The machines were all manufactured in the USA back in the 1960s and were purchased from a military base originally used in a USO facility!
Glen “Erik” Halkola has been employed at Marion Landing for almost 5 years as their bowling mechanic. He is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all the machinery involved in having the Bowling Center on property, which certainly has its unique challenges! Deeann Welch, Leland’s on-site community association manager at Marion Landing, works closely with Erik to ensure the alleys are in great shape for resident bowling. With equipment this old, Erik and Deeann need to be on their toes as far as preventive maintenance goes.

The Association of Marion Landing was one of the first associations to join Ocala’s Leland family back in 2006 when Leland Management opened their Ocala Division. Marion Landing was developed on approximately 197 acres surrounded by thoroughbred horse farms, and has 598 single-family units. Residents of this active adult (age-restricted/55+) community enjoy a 15,300 sq. ft. Lifestyle Center, the 3,400 sq. ft. Bowling Center, fitness facility, pool, spa, tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard, bocce, and even a small fishing pond. The community has its own water treatment plant as well. Leland provides 5 employees for management of the association including an on-site manager, an activities coordinator, office assistant and maintenance personnel.

Ask any avid Marion Landing bowler and they will say that their community is the ultimate place to retire because of this unique amenity!
