CAM Designations & What They Mean

Earning one or more property management certifications is a challenging process that tests a manager’s knowledge, application and understanding of the laws surrounding property association management. These credentials indicate that an individual takes a professional approach to their career as a property manager and is a credible resource for your association.Picture1

Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA)

Awarded by the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) and created by the Community Associations Institute (CAI), this is one of most useful and practical certifications a property manager can obtain. Members are actively kept up to date on the latest property management laws applicable to their state and are networked to other local CMCAs.  However, members are also required to fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain the certification.  If you are pursuing a career in property management, and expect to manage properties besides your own, I would highly recommend getting your CMCA certification.

Association Management Specialist (AMS)

Awarded by the Community Associations Institute (CAI), the AMS designation requires two years of experience in the financial, administrative, and facilities management of at least one association, the successful completion of at least two advanced level continuing education courses, and a passing score on the CMCA exam.

Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM)

The PCAM designation is the highest professional recognition available nationwide to managers who specialize in community association management. Awarded by the Community Associations Institute (CAI), the PCAM designation requires a minimum of five years of direct community association management experience, the successful completion of all six advanced continuing education courses, and a passing grade on the CMCA exam.

Accredited Association Management Company (AAMC)

The AAMC accreditation demonstrates a company’s commitment to providing the unique and diverse services community associations need. An Accredited Association Management Company ensures that their staff has the skills, experience, and integrity to help communities succeed. Its managers have advanced training and demonstrated commitment to the industry. The AAMC accreditation process requires a company have a minimum of three years of experience based on client verification, a PCAM designee as the company’s senior manager, and a staff of which 50% of managers hold a professional manager credential (CMCA, AMS, or PCAM).

Leland Management is pleased to announce

Leland Management is pleased to announce that Gary van der Laan, Vice President, was named to the Florida Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law (UPL) committee. Gary, who has worked at Leland Management for over 7 years has been appointed to serve on the committee for a 2 year term beginning on July 1st. The Unlicensed Practice of Law (UPL) program was established by the Supreme Court of Florida to protect the public against harm caused by unlicensed individuals practicing law. Being named to the UPL committee is not only an honor for Gary, but a testament to his professionalism and his commitment to protect the public interest. Please join us in congratulating him on this most recent accomplishment.

Christy Borden Named OBJ Business Executive of the Year

Leland Management is proud to announce that Christy Borden, 100_1094Director of Management Development, has been named among the Orlando Business Journal’s Business Executives of the Year for 2014. Christy who has been in the management industry since 2001 was granted this honor based on her long list of business, community and personal accomplishments. At Leland, Christy is responsible for the training, managing and supervising of sixteen licensed association managers that oversee approximately seventy four associations located throughout Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties. Christy is thoroughly involved in client relations and retention, sales, marketing, presentations, and networking as well as being instrumental in lending her knowledge towards developing and implementing company process improvements. While she spends the majority of her time at the Leland main corporate office, she is also tasked as the Volusia Division Director. In this role she is responsible for the sales development, networking, operations and staff management for the entire Volusia Division. In her professional career Christy has obtained the CMCA, AMS and PCAM designations. She is also an active member in several local chamber of commerce and the CAI mid-Florida chapter.

Meet the Team: David Vinnedge

David Vinnedge was born in Waukegan, IL in 1964. He graduated from Waukegan East 100_1067High School in 1982 and moved to South California shortly thereafter. While working at Domino’s pizza as a delivery driver, David met his future wife Carrie. In 1989 He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from San Diego State University. He began his career as a CPA in Palm Springs, CA and worked there for several years before moving to Atlanta in 1995. While working in Atlanta David discovered his passion for computers and moved to Kissimmee, FL in 2000 to form his own Information Technology consulting company. David has been nationally published in the Journal of Accountancy and was a national speaker for the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) for several years.

David and his wife Carrie have been married for nearly 28 years and have three children: Lindsey, Marlee, and Shaun. Lindsey is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and is currently a first grade teacher in Orlando, Marlee is pursuing her Doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of Central Florida and Shaun is considering pursuing a degree in information technology while he works here at Leland. When David is not in the office he enjoys playing sports, puzzles, camping and spending time with his family and dog Cooper. He went hang-gliding last year and would like to visit Ireland in the near future.

Meet the Team: Marta Arango

In the first segment of our Meet the Team campaign we would like to introduce you to Marta Arango.

Marta Arango was born in Havana, Cuba and migrated to the United States in 1960 with her family. She graduated from high school in bustling New York City and shortly thereafter was married. She gave birth to her daughter Janet at the age of 20 and her son Joel at the age of 23. In 1971, Marta and her family moved to Florida after the grand opening of Disney World. Before joining the Leland team in October of 2005, she spent 15 years in the banking industry and another 15 years in accounts payable at a major automobile dealership.



Today Marta is the proud grandmother of 3 beautiful grandchildren and 1 great- grandchild. She lives with her cat Bernadette and her Shitzu Maggie. She loves sweets, crafting, and high heels. Always creative, Marta spends her leisure time creating festive decorations and hopes to one day have her own crafting business. When asked what her strongest contribution to the Leland team is she cited the quality of her work and takes pride in her attention to detail. Jessica Barton, Manager of Assessments & Billing, says “Marta is a great asset to the Leland Team, she is willing to assist with all sorts of tasks even outside of her own responsibilities. Her work is always free and clear of errors because she is so diligent and ensures the accuracy of each task.” Marta says being named Leland Super Star of the month in May 2010 is one of her fondest memories in her tenure with the company.

Leland Management Announces New IT Manager

Leland Management is pleased to announce that team member Diane Braswell has been promoted to Manager of IT and Digital Media.

Diane, who has worked at Leland for two years,  has a degree in Mechanical Engineering  from Auburn University.  Prior to her career at Leland, Diane spent 13 years as a project manager for an IT Consulting and Web Development company.  In her new role Diane will be responsible for the management of the IT department as well as the oversight of the Leland Management website and Leland’s digital presence.

Leland Management Earns AAMC Designation

We are very happy to announce that Leland Management has received our AAMC® (Accredited Association Management Company) designation by the Community Association Institute (CAI). The AAMC® is the top industry professional credential a management company can achieve. We are especially proud of this accomplishment as it is shared by only a small percentage of management companies worldwide. This achievement was a team accomplishment. To gain accreditation 50% of managers in a management company must hold a professional designation. Leland surpassed that requirement and employs many managers with several professional designations each. Leland is very thankful to have such a dedicated team and looks forward to continuing excellence in community association management.
